'ARAI' will set up mobility research center at Takwe
'ARAI' MusiumPune : The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) will set up mobility research center at Takwe near Talegaon (Pune). This will be the 4th campus of 'ARAI'. It will come up in 110 acres of land. This was announced by Rashmi Urdhwareshe, Director, 'ARAI' during a press  conference held at 'ARAI' Kothrud campus.

A. A. Badusha and M. R. Saraf, Senior Deputy Directors were also present. The Press Conference was organised to announce ARAI's Symposioum on International Automotive Technology which will take place between January 16 and 18 at Oxford Golf Resort. Empowering Mobility- The Safe & Intelligent Way is theme of 'SIAT 2019'. Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Sector Enterprises Anant Geete will be visiting 'SIAT 2019' on January 17th and 18th respectively. 'SIAT' will be inaugurated by Dr. A. R. Sihag Secretary, Department of Heavy Industries.

Rashmi UrdhwaresheUrdhwareshe said, ''This mobility research center which will have vehicle test tracks for automotive, testing and certification facility for equipment related to construction and mining industry. It will also have special facilities to test the futuristic vehicles like autonomous and connected vehicles. Moreover, this center will house infrastructure for undertaking research work in fire safety of vehicles, impact of functioning of tyres on road and safety measures for vehicles with 'LPG' and 'CNG' cylinders. Construction work for this center will commence in the current year and will take about three years to complete.''

''ARAI' is setting up first of its kind National Automotive Technology museum in Pune in association with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). It will come up 2.5 acres piece of land at Kharadi which has already been identified and allotted by 'PMC' for the purpose. Investments to the tune of Rs. 100 crores will be required for this museum. 'ARAI' plans to generate these funds from the central government and major private players in the automotive sector. The museum is likely to get completed by 2022 work for the same will commence this year. The museum is being set up to demonstrate the contribution of pioneers of Indian Automotive Industry and motivate the researchers who contributed in the technological developments and to address ever changing need of the consumer,' added Urdhwareshe.

The 'ARAI' has done standardization of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles ideally suited for Indian conditions. The same will be displayed at 'SIAT 2019'. Charging infrastructure is one of the key components to take electric mobility further in the country. A bus made with aluminium super structure has also been developed by 'ARAI' the weight of which is about 800 kg lesser than the conventional bus. Such a bus is not only ideal for electric buses but also can also improve the fuel efficiency of non electric buses by seven to nine percent. This bus will also be displayed during 'SIAT 2019'.
